Additional Outdoor Water Conservation Ideas
Californians use more than 50 percent of their water outdoors and much of that is used inefficiently. Consider:
Upgrading to a “smart” irrigation timer. Estimated daily savings: 20-40 gallons per 1,000 square ft. of land irrigated.
Using California-friendly plants. Estimated daily savings: 30-60 gallons per 1,000 square ft.
Adding 2 to 3 inches of mulch around trees and plants. Estimated daily savings: 20-30 gallons per 1,000 square ft. of mulch.
Installing pool and spa covers. Estimated daily savings: 30 gallons.
Wherever you use water, there are opportunities to save, from shortening the duration of showers to installing water-saving devices.
